Residents in most places in Kashmir experienced a slight relief from the intense cold conditions as the minimum temperatures settled above the freezing point, according to officials on Sunday.
Except for Pahalgam and Kupwara, where the minimum temperatures remained below freezing, all other weather stations in the valley recorded temperatures above the freezing point.
Officials reported that Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum of zero degrees Celsius, up from minus 1 degree Celsius the previous night.
The renowned ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.5 degrees Celsius.
In Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir, the minimum settled at minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town registered a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, was the coldest recorded place in the valley at minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 3.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.
The minimum temperature in Kupwara town in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.7 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Office indicated that the weather is expected to stay partly to generally cloudy with mainly dry conditions on Sunday. There are chances of light rain or snow at isolated to scattered places in the higher reaches of Kashmir from Monday until November 30, as per the Met Office forecast.
