Youth Parliament Ends on High Note in Srinagar; SSP Raja Nighat Aman Attends Closing Session

Srinagar, March 2: The District-Level Youth Parliament and Yuva Connect Programme, organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Srinagar in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), University of Kashmir, concluded at Women’s Degree College, M.A. Road, Srinagar on February 28.

Nearly 300 students from various educational institutions across the district participated in the programme, which aimed to promote democratic engagement and leadership among youth.

Senior Superintendent of Police Raja Nighat Aman attended the closing session as the Chief Guest, along with the Principal of Women’s Degree College, M.A. Road. Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the importance of active youth participation in democratic processes and responsible citizenship.

The Youth Parliament was centred on the theme “50 Years of the Emergency,” which sparked thoughtful debate and critical reflection among participants. Students expressed diverse perspectives on democracy, constitutional values, civil liberties and the lessons drawn from that significant phase in the nation’s history. The discussions underscored the need to safeguard democratic institutions and uphold constitutional principles.

Dr. Waqar Amin, NSS Coordinator at the University of Kashmir, delivered the welcome address, emphasising the vital role of youth in strengthening democratic traditions and contributing to nation-building.

Pradip Kumar, Deputy Director of MY Bharat Srinagar, encouraged students to engage in constructive dialogue, respect differing viewpoints and participate actively in shaping society.

The programme was coordinated by the MY Bharat Srinagar volunteer team, including Rahi Rayaz (TOT), Imran Khan of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Inam Hussain, Muzamil Abbas, Showkat Ahmad Mir, Faizan Salmani and other volunteers, whose collective efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the event.

Officials said the initiative provided a meaningful platform for young people to articulate their views, develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of democratic values.
