Handwara Bar Association Concludes Annual Elections, Advocates Gear Up for New Leadership

Handwara 15 Feb: In a democratic process, the Handwara Bar Association (HBA) successfully conducted its annual elections, marking the transition to a new leadership. The election, spanning several days, reached its pinnacle on Thursday, with candidates passionately vying for various posts.Contesting candidates included Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan and Advocate Nadeem Majeed Dar for the Presidential post, Advocate Rafi Afzal and Advocate Mir Imran for the Vice President post, Advocate Shakoor Ahmad Bhat and Advocate Owais Majeed Malik for Joint Secretary, and Advocate Wahid Bashir and Advocate Bilal Ahmad Malik for the Treasurer post.Notably, Advocate Sajjad Gani clinched the position of General Secretary unopposed.The race for the Presidency witnessed Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan securing victory with 47 votes against Advocate Nadeem Majeed Dar’s 38 votes, securing a lead of 9 votes.The Vice President position, however, saw a tight contest between Advocate Rafi Afzal and Advocate Mir Imran, with the former winning by a slim margin of a single vote – 43 votes to 42.Advocate Wahid Bashir emerged victorious in the Treasurer election with 58 votes, surpassing Advocate Bilal Ahmad Malik, who secured 27 votes.The election process was conducted in a transparent and fair manner, ensuring the satisfaction of all contesting candidates. The oath-taking ceremony for the newly-elected office bearers is yet to be finalized.
