In a joyous celebration, the OBC Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, led by President Sunil Prajapati, marked the implementation of OBC reservation in the region, replacing the Weak and Underprivileged Classes (Social Caste)/OSC category through the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2023.

Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, J&K BJP General Secretary, joined the celebration, expressing support for the government’s decision. The event, held at the BJP Office Trikuta Nagar, witnessed the participation of various prominent leaders from the OBC Morcha.

The recently passed J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2023 was enthusiastically hailed during the celebration. Sweets were distributed among OBC members present, who expressed joy through dance and slogans in favor of the BJP Union Government, chanting “Modi, Modi, Modi!” and phrases like “Modi Govt Jinda Bad” and “Modi hai to Mumkann hai.”

This historic decision signifies the first-time consideration of OBCs in J&K for OBC reservation, replacing the earlier provision of 2% reservation under the OSC category by the NC/Congress governments.

Sunil Prajapati extended gratitude to the Prime Minister and Home Minister for the historic decision, emphasizing that OBCs in J&K will now receive benefits at par with other states, including reservation in elections of municipalities and panchayats.

Prajapati highlighted that OBCs will now be eligible for reservation based on their population, potentially surpassing the existing 4% under the OSC category. He called it a significant relief for OBCs and urged the government to consider an appropriate percentage of reservation for OBCs after amending J&K Reservation Rules.

This development is seen as a milestone for OBCs in J&K, marking a shift in their status and bringing about increased representation and opportunities. The celebratory atmosphere at the BJP Office Trikuta Nagar reflected the historic significance of this decision for the OBC community in the region.
