Captain Atul Somra Cricket Championship 2023″ Concludes Successfully at Banihal, Promoting Sportsmanship and Fitness

The “Captain Atul Somra Cricket Championship 2023,” organized by the Army camp Banihal, concluded on a high note, aiming to foster sportsmanship and physical fitness among the youth of Banihal, District-Ramban.

Commencing on November 21 at the Cricket Ground Bankoot, the tournament witnessed the active participation of 32 teams from various parts of Ramban District, including teams representing twenty-four Panchayats of Banihal and eight teams from other tehsils. The inaugural match, played between Lions Cricket Club Gund and Nowgam Warriors, set the stage for an exciting series of matches.

SDM Banihal, Zaheer Abbas Bhat, DDC Member Imtiyaz Khandey, and locals inaugurated the tournament, commending the Army for consistently providing opportunities for local teams to showcase their sporting talents.

The final showdown took place between WCC Chareel and AI Sports Banihal, with AI Sports Banihal emerging victorious by seven wickets in 14 overs.

The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 30,000, while the Runner’s up were awarded Rs 10,000 along with trophies and medals. Other top performers were also recognized with trophies and cash prizes during the presentation ceremony, attended by DDC Imtiyaz Khandey, BMO Banihal, ZPEO Banihal, locals, media personnel, and sports enthusiasts.

With extensive coverage by local media, the event garnered tremendous response from the youth across the remote villages of Ramban District. The Army’s commitment to supporting the local community was evident, and plans to collaborate with civil administration for future sports events were affirmed, contributing to the region’s sporting landscape
