Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo conducted a comprehensive review of the hydropower potential in Jammu and Kashmir, examining ongoing projects in both Chenab and Jhelum river basins. Dulloo emphasized accelerating project execution, resolving bottlenecks, and enhancing local capacity for livelihoods.

The meeting discussed major projects like Pakal Dul HEP, Kiru HEP, Kwar HEP, and Kirthai-II HEP, with a combined capacity of 3043 MW by November 2026. Smaller projects such as Parnai HEP, Karnah HEP, New Ganderbal HEP, and Lower Kalnai HEP are set for completion in two years.
Out of the identified 18,000 MW hydropower potential, 15,000 MW is on J&K river basins. Additional projects are in the DPR and feasibility study stages, slated for execution in the coming months.
In a separate meeting, Dulloo addressed the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Plan for the 850 MW Ratle HEP. He urged adequate compensation for Project Affected Families (PAFs) and seamless rehabilitation, emphasizing a multi-crore plan covering housing, agriculture, scholarships, and infrastructure development.
The meetings were attended by key officials from various departments, including Jal Shakti, Forests, PWD, PDD, Revenue, and representatives of NHPC, JKPDC, and CVVPL.
