DC Ganderbal Takes Swift Action to Enhance Safety on Zojila Road After Fatal Accident

In response to a recent fatal road accident on the Zojila stretch, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shyambir of Ganderbal led a comprehensive inspection today, accompanied by key officials including SDM Kangan, ARTO Ganderbal, and SDPO Kangan. The aim was to assess road conditions and implement immediate safety measures to avert future mishaps.

During the inspection, vulnerable spots were identified, and the DC instructed BEACON authorities to promptly implement necessary safety measures. Ongoing projects for long-term solutions, including retaining walls and permanent crash barriers, are set for completion next year.

Expressing grief over recent tragedies, the DC directed authorities to ensure effective safety measures. In response, a decision was made to restrict tourist vehicles beyond Sonamarg starting tomorrow. Additionally, BEACON was tasked with conducting thorough trail runs before allowing traffic towards Zojila pass, with prominent display of speed limits.

The DC appealed to commuters to strictly adhere to road safety measures, emphasizing the need for immediate action to secure Zojila road. OC BEACON assured the implementation of both short-term and long-term safety measures to safeguard lives on this critical stretch of road. The DC’s proactive approach underscores the commitment to preventing further tragic incidents on Zojila pass.
