Doda, November 16: In the aftermath of a tragic road mishap in Doda, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, took swift action by conducting a spot inspection of the accident site at Assar. Accompanied by key officials, including Deputy Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh, the Div Com assessed the road condition firsthand and discussed immediate safety measures to prevent future mishaps.

During the inspection, the Div Com directed the Executive Engineer PWD to compile a list of black spots along the highway and other roads in the district. To enhance road safety, he instructed concerned officers to raise crash barrier heights and install signages and mirrors for improved visibility and awareness.
Following the on-site assessment, the Divisional Commissioner visited Government Medical College & Hospital Doda to inquire about the condition of those injured in the accident. Senior doctors briefed him on the health status of the injured, and the Div Com directed the District administration to appoint a nodal officer for coordination and care of the injured at the hospital.
Later, Ramesh Kumar chaired a Road Safety Committee meeting at the DC office complex to assess the cause of the accident and discuss future safety measures. Instructions were issued to post senior medical staff in CHC Assar and station a critical care/Advanced Life Support Ambulance between Assar and Khellani to strengthen the rescue and response system.
The Divisional Commissioner urged the ARTO to take strict action against traffic rule violators and increase roadside checks. Authorities from PWD, PMGSY, and NHIDCL were directed to install crash barriers, signages, speed limit monitors, and other safety equipment at black spots.
Emphasizing the need for inter-district coordination and healthcare infrastructure, the Div Com called for the strengthening of control rooms, disaster response teams, and local rescue volunteers. He stressed the importance of training Civil Defense volunteers and the general public for immediate rescue responses. Additionally, an immediate audit of accident causes and casualties by designated officers from various departments was mandated.
The Divisional Commissioner’s proactive measures aim to minimize the risk of fatal road accidents in the region and ensure the safety of commuters on Doda’s roads.
