With a historical involvement dating back to post-independence, the Indian Army has confronted challenges, shown resilience, and implemented strategies for positive change. This article explores the historical context, key events, prominent officers, achievements, contributions, peacebuilding efforts, challenges faced, and the overall significance of the Indian Army in Jammu & Kashmir.Jammu & Kashmir, with its unique geopolitical dynamics, has been a focal point of strategic and security concerns. The Indian Army’s involvement dates back to the post-independence period, marked by significant events like the Indo-Pak wars of 1947-48, 1965, and 1971. These conflicts underscored the army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting the interests of the people in Jammu & Kashmir.Several dates stand out as significant markers in the Indian Army’s journey in Jammu & Kashmir. On October 27, 1947, the first Indian troops were airlifted to Srinagar, preventing the region from falling into external hands. The Kargil War of 1999 remains a testament to the army’s valor in high-altitude warfare, successfully evicting infiltrating forces from the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC).Stalwart officers like Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, General K.
