Omar Abdullah-led administration clears sanitation projects under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0

The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved used water management projects worth over ₹72 crore for Baramulla and Rajouri districts to strengthen sanitation infrastructure, improve sewage treatment systems and enhance public health standards.
Officials said the Omar Abdullah-led government sanctioned projects worth ₹37.96 crore for Municipal Council Baramulla and ₹34.43 crore for Municipal Council Rajouri.
According to an official spokesperson, the projects are aimed at addressing waste water management challenges in the two urban centres while ensuring scientific treatment of sewage and preventing pollution of water bodies.
The spokesperson said the projects are expected to significantly improve hygiene, sanitation and overall living conditions for residents in both districts.
The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the schemes were prepared by the Housing and Urban Development Department under the CAPEX component of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.
Officials said the DPRs have been technically vetted by National Institute of Technology Srinagar.
The projects will use Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, a modern sewage treatment method known for high treatment efficiency through a single-step biological treatment process.
Authorities said the schemes are intended to create sustainable waste water treatment systems and improve sanitation facilities in both municipalities.
Both projects are scheduled to be completed within a period of 18 months, officials added.
