JKPICCA Holds Elections; Elects New Office Bearers; Outgoing President Extends Felicitations

SRINAgar:The Fruits & Vegetables Processing & Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) conducted its highly anticipated elections for the posts of President, Vice President, and General Secretary cum Treasurer on 9th November 2024.

The election process, carried out in accordance with Notification No: JKPICCA/1-02/11/2024, saw significant participation from the association’s members.

Outgoing President, Majid Wafai, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected office bearers and praised the Election Commission for conducting a smooth, fair, and professional election.

The election, held from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, was closely monitored by a distinguished panel of observers, ensuring transparency and integrity throughout.

A total of 86 eligible voters participated in the election, with the polling conducted in an orderly and well-organized manner.

For the President’s post, the contest initially involved three candidates: Izhaan Javeed (Green Valley Agro Fresh), Bashir Ahmad Naik (Al-Noor Agri Fresh), and Zaffar Habib Dar (Habib Agro Fresh). However, Izhaan Javeed withdrew his candidature before the deadline, leaving Naik and Dar to compete for the position. The final result saw Bashir Ahmad Naik emerging victorious with 69 votes, while Zaffar Habib Dar secured only 3 votes. The newly elected President, Naik, expressed his gratitude towards the voters and emphasized his commitment to advancing the interests of the cold storage and fruit processing sectors.

In the Vice President’s election, Mohd Arif Mir (Valley Fresh Cold Chain) was declared elected unopposed after the withdrawal of the other candidates, including Abdul Rashid Guroo (Shopian Agro Fresh), Atal Kumar (Global Cold Store Chain), and Rouf Ahmad Kachroo (Kachroo Integrated Cold Chain).

For the position of General Secretary cum Treasurer, Ishfaq Ahmad Malik (MAS Agro Fresh Pvt Ltd) emerged victorious, securing 60 votes. His opponent, Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh (Superstar), received 8 votes. Malik’s win reflects the trust placed in him by the association’s members, and he vowed to focus on furthering the development of the sector and addressing the industry’s challenges.

The election proceedings were conducted in the presence of various officials and observers, including Faiz Bakshi, Secretary General of KCCI; Syed Shabbir, General Manager of DIC Pulwama; Mukhtar Ahmad, President of the Industrial Association Lassipora; and others. The Election Commission, comprising Irshad Ahmad, Ashaq Hussain Shangloo, and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, played a crucial role in overseeing the election process.

In his message to the members of JKPICCA, Majid Wafai expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the outgoing team and highlighted the achievements made during his tenure, particularly in advocating for the growth of Jammu & Kashmir’s cold storage and fruit processing sectors. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Election Commission and the observers for their role in ensuring a fair and transparent election.

The newly elected office bearers will now take charge, continuing the association’s work in addressing industry challenges and promoting the development of the cold storage and fruit processing sectors in the region.
