In a significant legislative move, the Centre is set to present the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation and Reorganisation Amendment Bills in the Lok Sabha for passage. The proposed Bills aim to enhance representation by increasing the total number of seats to 90, with specific reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Notably, the Bills empower the Lieutenant Governor to nominate up to two members from the Kashmiri migrant community to the Legislative Assembly, with one of them being a woman. The definition of migrants includes those who migrated after November 1, 1989, and are registered with the Relief Commissioner, extending to individuals in government service or possessing immovable property but unable to reside due to disturbed conditions.
