National Farmer’s Day Celebrated in Jammu

On December 23, the Agriculture department celebrated National Farmer’s Day in Jammu, commemorating the memory of late Choudary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. A road show and Millet exhibition were organized at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo, to encourage the production and consumption of millets.

Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department, inaugurated the event. The objective was to explore the potential of millets in transforming the agricultural landscape. The road show campaign focused on promoting millet consumption for a healthier lifestyle.

Shailendra Kumar emphasized the importance of incorporating millets into the daily diet and abstaining from unhealthy food choices. He reiterated the Agriculture department’s commitment to increasing awareness about millet consumption. The Principal Secretary urged everyone to promote millet consumption as a chemical-free and healthier alternative.

The event included a road show campaign, millet exhibition, and inspection of stalls exhibiting different agricultural activities. Shailendra Kumar inspected the stalls, providing on-the-spot directions to promote a unique brand in honey and mushroom. The Millet Mela-cum-Exhibition brought together farmers, kisan board representatives, academia, experts, and enthusiasts to encourage millet production and consumption.
