JAMMU, NOVEMBER 16: Today, Jambu Zoo eagerly anticipates the arrival of a distinguished pair of 9-year-old Royal Bengal Tigers, India’s National Animal, from Aringar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
This significant exchange marks the transfer of the tiger pair from Jambu Zoo to Aringar Anna Zoological Park, in exchange for a pair of Himalayan Black Bears, as part of an esteemed animal exchange program.
Renowned as one of the largest, most formidable members of the Big Cat family, the Royal Bengal Tiger possesses a distinctive stripe pattern that sets each tiger apart, aiding in their identification during tiger census initiatives. India currently boasts around 3,167 tigers in its forests, accounting for more than 75% of the global tiger population, according to the 2023 Tiger Census.
Upon their arrival, the tiger pair will reside in a naturalistic and enriched enclosure spanning over 4500 square meters, complying with the guidelines set by the Central Zoo Authority. The enclosure is equipped with water ponds, machans, and facilities for heating and ventilation, catering to extreme weather conditions. Following a week-long quarantine period, the Tigers will be introduced into the paddock for public viewing.
The addition of the Royal Bengal Tiger to Jambu Zoo’s diverse wildlife collection promises to captivate visitors, particularly children, wildlife enthusiasts, and all those seeking an awe-inspiring experience in the world of fauna.
