Kupwara 23 Jan 2024:In a noteworthy development, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has nominated Sheikh Mohammad Iqbal as a member of the District Advisory Committee of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS). This decision comes under the supervision of the Honourable Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Anurag Thakur, recognizing Sheikh Mohammad Iqbal as an eminent personality in the fields of social services, youth work, education, and culture.NYKS, established in 1972, operates as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Its primary objective is to provide rural youth with opportunities to actively participate in nation-building processes and foster the development of their personalities and skills.Being the largest grassroots level youth organization globally, NYKS operates on the principles of voluntarism, self-help, and community participation. It channels the power of youth, establishing a network of youth clubs in villages where Nehru Yuva Kendras have been set up.Over the years, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has played a crucial role in identifying areas for harnessing youth power for development. This is achieved through the formation of Youth Clubs, serving as village-level voluntary action groups that engage youth in various nation-building activities. The strength of NYKS lies in its extensive network of these youth clubs, contributing significantly to grassroots-level development initiatives.
