Raja Javiad Handwara, March 8, 2024: A major firefighting operation faced significant challenges due to snow-clogged roads, resulting in the destruction of a residential house in Puthwari Nowgam. The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Thursday.A fire erupted in the attic of a double-storey house owned by Mohammad Hafiz Khan. Despite immediate action by the Fire and Emergency Services, the non-clearance of snow on the roads, particularly in the Mawer belt, hindered the timely mobilization of personnel and firefighting equipment.Responding swiftly, a joint rescue operation was initiated by the Indian Army, Police, BSF, and local residents to contain the flames. The efforts continued for several hours before successfully controlling the fire. Although the residential house suffered substantial damage, the coordinated operation prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby structures. The local community expressed gratitude to all involved in the rescue operation, with special acknowledgment given to the Indian Army. Apart from actively participating in firefighting, the army provided humanitarian assistance to the affected family, including ration, tents, and other essential items. The collaborative response underscored the importance of community support and coordinated efforts in times of crisis.
