In a commendable effort towards enhancing livestock welfare, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) recently organized a significant initiative in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Budgam and Bandipora.

Under the National Livestock Mission, a project funded by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt. of India, SKUAST-K’s Division of Animal Nutrition distributed Multi-nutrient Blocks (MNB) and conducted awareness programs for farmers in Budgam and Bandipora districts.

The initiative, titled ‘Sustainable Livelihood Improvement of Resource Poor Farmers through Livestock Productivity Augmentation,’ aimed to standardize and popularize value-added animal feed supplements in the Kashmir Himalayas.

Multi-nutrient blocks prepared by SKUAST-K were distributed free of cost among fifty livestock farmers in each district. Prof. Arshad Ahmad Mughal and Prof. Purshotam Singh graced the events as chief guests, emphasizing the importance of sustainable livestock practices. Prof. Abdul Majeed Ganai, Head of the Division of Animal Nutrition, highlighted the activities, while Dr. Yasir Afzal Beigh, Principal Investigator of the project, provided in-depth lectures on the proper usage and feeding schedule of the multi-nutrient blocks.

The Heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Budgam and Bandipora expressed gratitude for SKUAST-K’s proactive role in addressing farmers’ concerns.

This initiative not only contributes to the welfare of livestock but also aligns with broader goals of sustainable agriculture and livelihood improvement for farmers in the region.
