Joshi revealed that certain Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and colleges have been facilitating the issuance of foreign degrees without UGC recognition. The commission also highlighted the presence of edtech companies advertising online degree and diploma programs in association with foreign universities, emphasizing that such franchise arrangements are not permissible.

The UGC warned that degrees obtained through these programs will not be recognized, and action will be taken against defaulting edtech companies and HEIs under applicable regulations. Students and the public are advised to exercise caution, as any enrollment in such courses will be at their own risk. The commission aims to uphold the standards of higher education and discourage collaborations that do not meet their recognition criteria.
