ANANTNAG | January 17, 2024MVD Anantnag conducted a comprehensive awareness programme on Defensive Driving, targeting prospective applicants seeking a Driving Licence Test at the Trial Ground in Harnag, Anantnag. A total of 120 applicants participated, collectively taking an oath to adopt a safe driving lifestyle.Dr. Mohammad Zubair Lattoo (JKAS), Assistant Regional Transport Officer Anantnag, delivered an enlightening lecture during the session. The emphasis was on defensive driving, with the revelation that a staggering 72% of traffic accidents in India were attributed to speeding. The lecture underscored common causes such as driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under the influence, and using a cell phone while operating a vehicle. The statistics presented indicated a concerning trend, with two out of every three victims of car accidents in 2022 falling between the ages of 18 and 45. Beyond the emotional and psychological toll on families, the economic ramifications of such a high percentage of young victims were highlighted.Pertinently, this initiative aligns with the theme for this year’s National Road Safety Week, “Be a road safety hero.” The theme emphasizes collective efforts to enhance traffic safety and provide post-crash assistance, encouraging everyone to contribute to making travel safer.
