Jammu, Dec 14: In a proactive move, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has mandated officers, including deputy commissioners, to actively engage with the public at the grassroots level. The directive, issued under the leadership of the recently appointed Chief Secretary, senior IAS officer Atal Dulloo, emphasizes resolving public issues through increased interaction.

Commissioner Secretary Sanjeev Verma, from the General Administration Department, outlined specific guidelines in the order. Secretaries are instructed to embark on tours every fortnight and hold public hearings three days a week between 3 pm and 4 pm, excluding Wednesdays. Similarly, heads of departments, including deputy commissioners, are required to conduct weekly tours and hold public hearings three days a week, with Wednesdays being exempted.
Verma stressed the importance of strictly adhering to the schedule, ensuring that no official meetings or engagements interfere with the designated tour days and public hearing hours.
One notable aspect of the directive is the requirement for monthly reports. Administrative secretaries are tasked with submitting reports directly to the Chief Secretary, highlighting issues identified during tours and public hearings along with possible solutions. Heads of departments are instructed to submit their reports to their respective departments.
This comprehensive initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing public concerns and fostering a more responsive governance approach in Jammu and Kashmir.
