Buzzbytes, Srinagar, Dec20:

On Tuesday, the administration confirmed that the recent allocation of an additional 200 MWs of power to the Valley has successfully prevented any distress power cuts.
Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, chaired a crucial meeting with the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to assess the current power situation. The MD of KPDCL presented a comprehensive overview, detailing metrics such as average demand met, unrestricted maximum demand, and average curtailment.
Emphasizing the importance of timely action, Bidhuri instructed officials to prioritize the replacement of damaged Distribution Transformers (DT) to alleviate hardships faced by the public, especially during severe cold spells. The meeting extensively discussed the buffer status of DTs within KPDCL, stressing the need for adequate stock across districts, ensuring varied capacities to match replacement needs.
Furthermore, Bidhuri highlighted the improved efficiency in DT repairs, noting that urban areas witness restoration in under 12 hours, while rural areas see resolutions within a day. The session also evaluated the progress of smart metering initiatives under PMDP-U phases I and II.
To enhance accountability and combat malpractices, Bidhuri mandated daily updates on damaged DTs and urged officials to intensify efforts against power thefts. The gathering saw participation from key figures, including the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, MD and Chief Engineer of KPDCL, and Deputy Commissioners from all regions of the Kashmir Division via video conferencing.
