Srinagar, January 24:
As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide employment drive, a Rozgar Mela was organised in Srinagar on Friday at the Border Security Force (BSF) Frontier Headquarters, Kashmir, marking the Valley’s participation in the 18th tranche of the programme being held simultaneously across the country.
The event saw the distribution of appointment letters to 100 newly selected Constable (GD) candidates of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), providing them an entry into government service through what officials described as a transparent, merit-based and time-bound recruitment process.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the newly appointed candidates through video conferencing, reiterating the Government of India’s commitment to employment generation and youth empowerment. He said Rozgar Melas have become an important instrument in ensuring that government recruitment is conducted in mission mode, offering meaningful employment opportunities to young people across the country.
At the national level, more than 61,000 appointment letters were distributed on the occasion across various ministries and departments of the Government of India, including defence, health, financial services, education and internal security.
Officials said the Rozgar Mela initiative aims not only to generate employment but also to strengthen institutional recruitment mechanisms within the central government. By inducting young and motivated personnel, the programme seeks to enhance capacity building, improve service delivery and reinforce public institutions.
The Srinagar event was attended by senior officials of the BSF and other concerned departments, representatives of recruiting agencies and the newly appointed candidates. The atmosphere at the venue reflected a sense of achievement and optimism, particularly among the families of the recruits, many of whom were present to witness the moment.
Family members of the selected candidates expressed satisfaction over the transparent recruitment process and welcomed the government’s efforts to create job opportunities for youth, especially in sectors linked to national security and public service.
Officials said the successful organisation of the Rozgar Mela in Srinagar underlined the government’s focus on inclusive development and equal opportunities, ensuring that youth from Jammu and Kashmir are active participants in national employment initiatives.
The Rozgar Mela programme, launched as part of the Prime Minister’s employment-focused agenda, has already facilitated the issuance of over 11 lakh appointment letters across the country since its inception, reinforcing the Centre’s emphasis on jobs, skills and youth-led nation building.
